“Colonel Spreckley, B.F.F. late B.P.P. (Mining Company Manager), commanded early patrols. Did good service in the conduct of the successful engagement on the Umgusa, 6th June. Commanded successfully an important patrol to Shiloh and Inyati”

Awarded the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George on 5th May 1897
